A series of September events across Onkaparinga will bring young people and the community together through creativity, connection and conversations that matter.

Submit a piece for a youth art exhibition

Eight-to-25-year-olds are encouraged to enter artworks for a new youth art exhibition, Colour the Conversation, which will explore connection, belonging, friendship, support, hope, and what means to really ask ‘are you OK?’.

The Southern Youth Connect exhibition – supported by Onkaparinga Youth – aligns with R U OK? Day (Thursday 10 September), which acknowledges that a conversation could change a life for someone who’s struggling.

You can submit your piece (via this link) by Wednesday 9 September, and the artworks received by Thursday 10 September will be exhibited at the annual Spin Your Wheels event at Minkarra Skate Park in Flagstaff Hill.

Following R U OK? Day, the exhibition will continue with works being displayed across Onkaparinga’s youth centres, community centres and libraries, helping to keep conversations going about connection, belonging and supporting one another.

Join a Chill and Chat night at Aberfoyle Park

A special R U OK?-themed free Chill n Chat youth hangout session is being held at Aberfoyle Community Centre on Wednesday 9 September (3:15pm to 5:15pm) where you can connect with others while watching a movie (Wonder), playing the Nintendo Switch and/or working on your Colour the Conversation artwork.

The session is suitable for high school students in years 7–12 and bookings are required. Did we mention there are free snacks?

Spin Your Wheels at Minkarra Skate Park

The celebrations continue on R U OK? Day (Thursday 10 September) with the annual Spin Your Wheels at Minkarra Skate Park, Flagstaff Hill.

From 4–6.30pm, young people and the community can enjoy a free, fun and interactive afternoon featuring free sausages, activities, live music and skate demonstrations, while connecting with others and supporting the important message of R U OK? Day.
