Come and Try in October

The days are warming up and if you’re looking at getting more active this spring, there are plenty of free programs and sessions happening across the south and suitable for all ages and abilities.

Disc golf

A free Come and Try disc golf session will be held on Saturday 2 October (11am-3pm) at Morphett Vale’s Wilfred Taylor Reserve, offering participants the chance to learn the ins and outs of the sport.

Much like traditional golf, disc golf players throw a flying disc, or Frisbee, from a tee area to a ‘hole’, which is a metal basket.

Suitable for the whole family, the Come and Try session includes free skills training and coaching, and bookings are essential.

monthly social league will also kick off from Sunday 3 October at the same location for $5 per player, so round up your friends and family to register for some friendly competition!

The Come and Try session and social league are made possible by a partnership between Healthy Active Lifestyles Onkaparinga (HALO), council’s active lifestyle program encouraging participation in sport and active recreation and promoting healthy active lifestyle choices, and SA Disc Golf.

Beach volleyball

Prefer to feel the sand between your toes? HALO is again partnering with Volleyball SA to bring a free Come and Try beach volleyball session to Port Noarlunga beach on Wednesday 6 October (6-8pm).

Suitable for adults and children 7+, the session includes skills training and coaching and takes place just north of the jetty.

A weekly twilight social competition will also be held from Wednesday 13 October, with a nomination and weekly fees to apply. Head to the Volleyball SA website for more information and to register your team.

OUTFIT Onkaparinga

HALO’s free Outfit Onkaparinga will return from Monday 11 October, operating each weekday in a welcoming environment for nine weeks.

The classes, which take place at Hackham West (Mondays), Christies Beach (Tuesdays), Moana (Wednesdays), Flagstaff Hill (Thursdays) and Maslin Beach (Fridays), offers free outdoor group exercise sessions with a personal trainer, utilising outdoor fitness equipment where possible (at Hackham West, Flagstaff Hill and Maslin Beach).

All sessions provide alternative exercises, which makes them accessible to all fitness levels and suitable for adults of all ages, and they’re a great way to improve your fitness and meet new people.

Bookings are essential and can be made three weeks in advance.
