Free youth party for Christie Downs

Wardli Block Party – a much-loved free all-ages youth event in Christie Downs – returns to Onkaparinga on Friday 22 March.

Held as part of SA Youth Week (15–24 March), the free community event will be held indoors and outdoors at Wardli Youth Centre, and it will feature a wide range of fun activities and performances created by and for young people.

Partygoers can enjoy youth markets, a free sausage sizzle, food vans, skateboarding and scootering, gaming, a glitter bar, interactive activities, a chill-out zone, basketball, live art and hip-hop, with the event running from 5:30pm to 8pm.

Bookings for the free event are essential, but be quick – it sold out last year!

Wardli Block Party is supported by the Department of Human Services through an SA Youth Week Grant, and it’s part of Onkaparinga Youth’s Regen Series – an annual program of events across the year by young people, for young people.

Each event is co-designed and delivered by young people and the City of Onkaparinga Youth Team.

Three young people who are studying an Event Management Course through Onkaparinga Youth have been employed to facilitate workshops in the lead-up to, and on the day of, this year’s Wardli Block Party, while a fourth is being employed to host and DJ the event.

Another young person who is doing the Event Management Course is being employed to host and DJ the event.

SA Youth Week is South Australia’s biggest celebration of young people aged 12 to 25, recognising the ideas, talents and contributions of young people in SA and including a wide range of events and activities created by and for young people.

The winners of the City of Onkaparinga’s annual Youth Recognition Awards will also be announced during SA Youth Week, with the news to be revealed here in Onkaparinga Now on Tuesday 19 March.
