Aldinga is getting a brand-new skate park and the City of Onkaparinga wants your help to design it.
In June 2022, the council received a grant of $1.3 million from the state government to design and construct a skate park and related facilities at the Aldinga Sports Park as part of the council’s Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan, which is well underway.
The City of Onkaparinga recently appointed award-winning consultant firm, CONVIC, to design and construct the new Aldinga skate facility. CONVIC has a wealth of experience in delivering skate parks across the country, including the council’s popular skate park at Niipu-niipu Wama/Morton Park in Christie Downs.
The Aldinga project will include a skate park (capable of hosting events and competitions), lights, irrigated turf for seating and viewing, shelter with picnic setting, trees, unsealed footpaths and an unsealed car park.
All they need now is your feedback on how the park should be designed!
A regional play space, which is currently unfunded, is also proposed to be developed in a youth precinct, immediately to the north of the skate park.
You can provide your feedback online at Your Say Onkaparinga from 5–20 December, or at one of two in-person workshops at Aldinga Payinthi College on Tuesday 5 December (from 3:30pm to 5:30pm or from 6:30pm to 8:30pm).
City of Onkaparinga Acting Mayor Michael Fisher said it was exciting to see another element of the Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan coming to life.
“Aldinga is a growing community with growing needs, and our Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan plays a big part in meeting those needs,” he said.
“We’re grateful to have secured $1.3 million from the state government towards the new skate park and I can’t wait to hear the community’s ideas during the engagement period!
“The sports park has been a hive of activity this year, with the new war memorial; hockey building; soccer clubroom and premier-sized soccer pitch; sports lighting for hockey, bowls and croquet; irrigation for bowls and croquet; and site upgrades of sewer, electrical, and water and irrigation supply among the stage one elements completed in 2023 thanks to a mix of state, federal and council funding.
“Work is also underway on two upgraded and two new changerooms for the Aldinga Football and Cricket Clubs, with the support of Leon Bignell Member for Mawson and the state government matching council’s $825,000 contribution.
“I’m looking forward to the master plan’s longer-term vision, including a regional play space, being delivered in the coming years subject to funding."
