Have your say on Frank Smith Park

The City of Onkaparinga is seeking community feedback on Coromandel Valley’s Frank Smith Park being used for organised sport in the future.

Frank Smith Park at Coromandel Valley is located in the City of Onkaparinga and forms part of the boundary with the City of Mitcham. It’s well used by the local community, including families, walkers and dog owners.

The park is also currently used for weekend junior soccer in the winter months and has been identified by council as a key sporting site for the northern suburbs.

A number of sporting clubs from both Onkaparinga and Mitcham have expressed interest in using the grounds at Frank Smith Park, and on 15 February 2022 Council gave in-principle support for the park to be used for organised sport. This support will allow stakeholders to seek external funding for playing surface upgrades.

Council also agreed to work with the City of Mitcham and other local stakeholders to finalise a district needs analysis, with the information to inform the breadth of impact on the local community and funding arrangements for future works.

The City of Onkaparinga would like to better understand the sporting needs of the local community to help plan for the park’s future. Understanding and balancing the needs of all users is an important consideration when planning for future use of open space and sports facilities.

Public consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 23 May 2022.
