Help shape the future of Onkaparinga’s roads
Published on 04 November 2026
The City of Onkaparinga is updating its Road Network Plan and wants to hear from the community about what matters when planning its road network for the future.
Roads are an important part of everyday life. They help us get to work, school, shops and services, support local businesses and freight, and connect communities across the city.
But our roads and streets have to serve many different needs.
A road may need to move traffic efficiently while also providing a safe environment for people walking or cycling. In other locations, there may be a need to balance parking, public transport, freight, street trees, local character or access to businesses and community facilities.
The updated draft Road Network Plan will help the council consider these different needs when planning and managing the road network into the future.
Why is the council updating the plan?
The existing Road Network Plan was last reviewed in 2016.
The updated plan will provide a more streamlined and contemporary framework for how the council considers the function of its road network and makes future planning and investment decisions.
It will take into account the different environments across Onkaparinga, including suburban, rural, hills, coastal, tourism and industrial areas.
The plan also reflects current approaches to road safety and considers the relationship between roads, transport and the places around them.
Provide your feedback
Community engagement on the draft Road Network Plan is open until Monday 23 November at the council’s Your Say page.
The survey asks you to consider a range of road network priorities and, importantly, the trade-offs that can sometimes be involved.
For example, providing more space for vehicles can affect space available for trees, pedestrians or other uses. Improving pedestrian access can affect parking or traffic movement.
There are no simple answers to many of these issues, so the council wants to understand what the community considers most important.
What happens to your feedback?
Feedback will be considered alongside technical, financial, legislative and strategic requirements as the plan is finalised.
A summary of what the council heard will be shared in December.
The final Road Network Plan is expected to be presented to Council in December 2026, with engagement outcomes and any changes resulting from the feedback to be shared with the community in February 2027.
It’s important to note that this engagement is about the strategic direction of the road network. It won’t directly result in maintenance or immediate upgrades to individual roads.
If you have a specific road maintenance issue or customer request, please continue to use council’s usual customer service channels.
