Onkaparinga announces 2026 Graduate Program

Published on 10 March 2026

The City of Onkaparinga is building the next generation of local government professionals through its Graduate Program – with recruitment for the 2026 intake now open.

Designed as a 2-year professional development experience, the Graduate Program fast-tracks career growth while giving participants the opportunity to contribute to real, impactful work supporting South Australia’s largest metropolitan council.

Graduates gain hands-on experience in their specialist fields, build strong professional networks across the organisation, and take part in structured learning designed to strengthen leadership capability and long-term career development.

More than 400 applications were received for the inaugural program last year, reflecting a growing desire for meaningful careers in local government – and Onkaparinga is proud to be leading the way.

Mayor Moira Were said programs like this are an important investment in the city’s future.

“Local government plays a vital role in shaping the places where people live, work and connect,” she said.

“Our Graduate Program allows us to attract talented, motivated people who want to build purposeful careers while contributing to meaningful outcomes for our community.

“It strengthens our workforce today and ensures we’re developing the leaders and specialists we’ll need into the future.

“We had a huge response last year, so I’d encourage people to get their applications in early.”

Recruitment for the 2026 intake opened on Tuesday 10 March and closes Thursday 30 April. The campaign may close early if the council receives a high volume of suitable applications. Opportunities are available in:

  • Graduate – Property Transactions
  • Graduate – Business Systems Analyst (ICT)

You’ll also see Onkaparinga’s team at the Flinders Careers Festival on Thursday and Friday 12–13 March, where you can learn insights into building a career in local government.
