SA eBikes expands with Local Business Grant
Published on 30 April 2026
Small businesses play a vital role in shaping vibrant, resilient communities. They create local employment, strengthen our economy, and add unique character to the places we live and visit.
Through its annual grants program, the City of Onkaparinga helps local operators grow, innovate and build long‑term sustainability—supporting a strong and diverse business ecosystem.
SA eBikes is a locally owned and operated e-bike tourism business offering fun, flexible, eco-friendly and accessible ways to explore our city’s world-class wineries, scenic trails, and conservation parks.
The eco-tourism business was founded in 2019 by Shayne and Rachel, a husband-and-wife team, who are committed to accessible tourism, responsible travel, and unforgettable experiences. They operate a bike hire hub based at the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast Visitor Information Centre and 7 cellar door bike hire locations in the McLaren Vale region.
Their fleet which includes e-Trikes, e-Tuk-Tuks and platform trikes caters for families and individuals of all ages and varying abilities, making seeing our region even more accessible in a way that is comfortable and safe.
A $10,000 Onkaparinga Local Business Grant in 2025-26 has allowed the growing business to expand their footprint by providing added storage facilities for their accessible fleet of e-vehicles. This investment supports the business’s growth while strengthening the region’s accessible tourism offering.
"Great tourism starts with great access… for everyone! The Onkaparinga Local Business Grant has helped us build the foundation - literally - to grow our fleet, establish 100% solar recharging and open McLaren Vale up to even more visitors. We're incredibly grateful for the council's belief in what we're building here.” Shayne, SA eBikes
The couple has also taken up the opportunity of free specialist advice from the Southern Business Mentoring Program, offered as part of Business Onkaparinga’s support services. Tourism, digital marketing and general business advice has helped Shayne and Rachel to plan, develop and take their business to the next level.
"Good advice at the right time makes all the difference in business. The Southern Business Mentoring Program gave Rachel and I access to real specialists — people who understood tourism, digital marketing, and the nuts and bolts of running and growing a small business. It's helped us make smarter decisions and given us a clearer roadmap for where we want to take SA eBikes."
Shayne, SA eBikes
