What should guide future development at Sellicks Beach? What are the issues and opportunities that need to be considered?
These are the questions City of Onkaparinga is asking as part of a community engagement on its draft Sellicks Beach Structure Plan—a strategic land use plan that will inform the direction on desired land uses, character and infrastructure to support existing and future development.
The Sellicks Beach Structure Plan needs to consider a complex mix of issues and be informed by a good understanding of community concerns and aspirations to result in a well-planned extension to the Sellicks Beach community.
Once finalised, the Structure Plan will be used by Council to make decisions that promote good community and environmental outcomes and positively shape the urban form and the future of Sellicks Beach.
Residents can have their say—by joining an online discussion forum or “mapping your thoughts” by dragging and dropping a pin to make a comment—at council’s Your Say page until Wednesday 9 December.
Two community information sessions, which were to be held in the Sellicks Beach Community Hall, have been cancelled due to Adelaide’s recent COVID-19 outbreak.
In lieu of the sessions, the Your Say page will be updated next week with a series of short video presentations providing information about the project.
Alternatively, residents can phone any of the project contacts to ask questions or share their ideas for the draft Structure Plan.
Why is a Structure Plan being prepared?
The State Government identifies Sellicks Beach as ‘planned urban lands’ in its 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide.
The final step of the state government’s statewide planning reforms is the commencement of the Planning and Design Code in 2021. The Code will introduce a new set of zones and policies for Sellicks Beach and a new process for rezoning.
The Sellicks Beach Structure Plan will ensure council has a strong position, backed by the community and technical investigations, to respond to any rezoning applications that may be lodged.
