Australia Day in Onkaparinga
Australia Day is just around the corner and you can get involved with City of Onkaparinga’s free Australia Day Bush Fair event and free breakfasts.
The Australia Day Bush Fair will be back at the South Adelaide Football Club Oval from 5:15pm to 9:15pm on Thursday, 26 January, with fireworks returning for the first time since 2019.
You can expect an entertainment overload with giant hamster balls, virtual reality, rock climbing, lawn games, face painting, roving artists, live music and so much more.
The fireworks display will be timed to Australian-themed music and will conclude the event’s festivities.
There will be an array of market stalls and exciting foods from various cultures to enjoy (see list below), but you’re also welcome to bring your own food and drink.
Event goers are encouraged to bring your own picnic blankets and chairs and reminded it’s an alcohol and smoke-free event.
In the morning, council’s free Australia Day Breakfasts are returning at three locations—Happy Valley Sports Park; Ramsay Place, Noarlunga Centre; and the Old Court House, Willunga, from 8–11am.
The breakfasts are a fantastic opportunity for the community and families to come together to celebrate Australia Day and to enjoy a free breakfast provided by the City of Onkaparinga.
There will be entertainment along with activities for the children. Connect with your community and reflect on our history, diversity, achievements and bright future. BYO picnic rug or chair.
City of Onkaparinga will also present its annual Australia Day Awards on the day, alongside its annual citizenship ceremony where 80 new Australian citizens will be welcomed.
The Australia Day Awards recognise local individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to Onkaparinga’s communities during the year.
Details about the award recipients will be provided via council’s website, social media and Onkaparinga Now following the ceremony.
