Become an Olympian these school holidays

The Paris 2024 Olympics are only a few weeks away, and 6–18-year-olds can get into the spirit by trying their hand at a range of Olympic sports these July school holidays!

Kicking off next Monday 8 July and running most weekdays until Friday 19 July, the free Youth Olympic Extravaganza allows local youth to come and try popular Olympic sports at Christie Downs’ Niipu-niipu Wama (Morton Park), with trained coaches and professionals facilitating each session.

You can register for as many or as few sessions as you like, with the Olympic sports on offer including skateboarding, parkour, athletics and indoor triathlon, rock climbing, tennis, boxing and 3x3 basketball.

Each sport will have both a mainstream session and an all-abilities, inclusive session to accommodate everyone, each session focused on participation over winning.

Participants that do join multiple sessions will accrue points for awards at a closing ceremony BBQ celebration, which is open to all participants to attend and socialise at the program’s end.

Head to the City of Onkaparinga website for more information, the schedule, and to book your sessions!

The Youth Olympic Extravaganza is being hosted through a partnership between the Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation and the City of Onkaparinga.

The program is just one of dozens of school holiday events being held across the City of Onkaparinga’s youth centres, libraries, community centres, arts precincts and natural areas from 6–21 July. Head to the council’s website for a full list of events.

The 2024 Paris 2024 Olympics begin on Friday 26 July, with the Paralympics to follow from Wednesday 28 August.
