Calling all dirt jump riders! The City of Onkaparinga is hosting a Community Dig Day at O’Halloran Hill’s Serpentine Reserve on Tuesday 16 December where you help can shape, improve and maintain the site’s dirt jumps.
The dig day will be held at the reserve during the school holidays from 10am to 2:30pm (weather permitting) where you can grab a shovel (provided) alongside other local riders and help reshape and adjust the site’s current jumps to make them better – and safer – to ride.
The council asked for the community’s feedback on the site’s jumps and ideas for improving them earlier this year, before coming back to the community with a draft plan for a final look and further feedback.
Contractors have now been at the site with heavy machinery over the past fortnight to prepare it for the community’s finishing touches.
Tuesday’s event isn’t aimed at rebuilding the site with new jumps; adding things like benches, lights or toilets; or removing trees – it’s instead aimed at letting the community play an active role in shaping where they ride with the council’s help and support.
Serpentine Reserve is one of 2 designated bike jump sites in Onkaparinga involved in the council’s 12-month Community Dig Days pilot program – the other being Seaford’s The Quarry on Grand Boulevard.
You can still provide feedback on the draft site plan for The Quarry to help shape its jumps before construction begins there (the date for the Seaford dig day is yet to be confirmed). Complete the online survey by Sunday 11 January.
Onkaparinga has 24 designated bike jump facilities across the region and the council is committed to providing safe, sustainable and fun spaces for all riders – from small local pump tracks up to large scale freestyle jumps, there’s something for you ride!
