It’s time to put on your gloves, roll up your sleeves and make a difference for our local environment on Clean Up Australia Day.
Sunday 6 March will see over one-million Aussies participate in clean-up sites all over the country. You can either get involved in an already registered clean up event, or you can register your own.
As the nation’s largest community-based environmental event, Clean Up Australia Day inspires communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.
Australia has a huge plastic problem, producing 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year and around 130,000 tonnes of the plastic we consume leaks into the marine environment each year.
South Australia has been a leader in tackling plastic waste, with initiatives including the banning of single-use plastic utensils, and supermarkets have now done away with single-use plastic shopping bags. However, Australia’s marine life is increasingly bearing the brunt of ingesting and becoming entangled in our plastic waste materials.
Step up on Sunday 6 March and become a ‘waste warrior’ by joining other concerned community members in cleaning up our beautiful beaches, parks, wetlands and walking trails.
There are already a number of clean up sites registered in the City of Onkaparinga, including at Aldinga, Chandlers Hill, Christies Beach, Coromandel Valley, Happy Valley, McLaren Vale, Moana; Port Noarlunga, Reynella, Seaford, Sellicks Beach, Willunga and Woodcroft.
Schools have their own Clean Up Australia Day on Friday 4 March and the Clean Up Australia Day website has a heap of great resources to get your whole school involved.
