Influence the region’s economic direction and growth when you have your say on the City of Onkaparinga’s draft economic and tourism plan.
The draft Economic Growth & Tourism Strategic Plan 2025–30 maps out how the council will build a stronger local economy and a thriving visitor destination over the next 5 years.
The draft plan is open for community and business feedback until 12 August 2025 on the council’s Your Say Onkaparinga website.
It identifies 4 focus areas for action:
- connected business
- visitor attraction and precinct activation
- partnering for growth
- future-ready workforce and industries.
It highlights the council’s role in supporting and amplifying the strengths of the local business community and co-creating the conditions that make the city attractive to visitors.
It outlines how the council can achieve these aims through its roles in:
- planning and policy for sustainable growth
- strategic infrastructure development
- well-maintained public spaces
- local procurement
- business support, programs and promotion, such as grants, workshops and networking
- advocacy for investment and funding.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were says the draft plan incorporates feedback from earlier extensive consultation with local businesses, industry stakeholders and residents.
“We heard that the community wanted greater clarity on the council’s role in economic growth and tourism, stronger collaboration and a practical roadmap for future growth. The draft plan reflects this,” she says.
“The plan also emphasises sustainable and people-centred growth.
“A strong economy is about more than just business activity. It’s about local jobs that support families, vibrant precincts that bring people together, and inclusive opportunities that ensure no one is left behind.
“It’s also about preserving and enhancing the natural environment we have, not just to attract tourists but so that our economic activity is sustainable in the long term and that Onkaparinga continues to be a great place to live.
“Everyone has a stake in our economic growth. I encourage businesses, associations, residents and community organisations to review the draft and provide their feedback.”
The plan was endorsed by the council for public consultation at its 15 July meeting. Following community feedback, a final plan will be developed for the council to consider.
