Every Generation Onkaparinga awards now open

Published on 11 July 2024

The Every Generation Onkaparinga awards – recognising people who have contributed to positive ageing in the region – are now open for nominations.

People of all ages, cultures and abilities in the City of Onkaparinga may be nominated.

There are three different awards: individual, group and intergenerational.

People aged 50 years and over can be nominated for all three awards. The intergenerational award is open to people of every age.

Anyone can nominate a person or group to recognise their:

  • contributions to local communities, usually made in a volunteer capacity
  • inspiration as a positive-ageing role model
  • achievements, as an older person, in arts, sports, education and culture
  • activities that have inspired community connection and unite our community across the generations (open to any age).

All nominees are presented with a certificate of recognition and the winners are announced at an exclusive presentation dinner at the South Adelaide Football Club on 23 October 2024.

The Every Generation Onkaparinga Awards have been running for 18 years and have recognised 147 individuals and 69 groups over that time.

Neville Gibbs OAM, a 2024 award winner, spent the better part of eight decades volunteering in the community, including as a gymnastics instructor and coach.

Now in his eighties, Neville says his work with the Morphett Vale Youth Club has been particularly rewarding.

“Being part of the club has provided a sense of purpose and helped me make wonderful connections within the area,” he says.

Nominations close at 5pm, Monday 9 August 2024.
