Know someone who's ageing with zest or helping make Onkaparinga a great place for older people to live? Nominate them in this year’s Every Generation Onkaparinga Awards.
Nominations close Friday 25 July and the City of Onkaparinga is keen to see as many individuals and groups nominated as possible.
“The awards recognise everyday people who exemplify or contribute to positive ageing,” says Judith Lowe, Onkaparinga’s Sustaining Independence and Wellbeing Project Officer.
“Our region is teeming with people who are shaping a more age-positive community. They’re in every street, suburb, club and workplace.
“We all know someone who is older and who is living life to the full, still serving the community, taking part in sport, looking after the environment or following they’re creative or culinary passions.
“And we’re all aware of people of any age and ability who, through volunteering, mentoring, community service, leadership, sport, creativity or simple quiet acts of kindness, are making Onkaparinga a great place for older people to live.
“We want to shine a light on these everyday people whose contributions and activities deserve to be seen, shared and celebrated.”
There are 3 award categories: individual, group and intergenerational.
The individual category recognises individuals aged over 50 years who do not let age define them or who, as volunteers, have contributed to positive ageing in Onkaparinga. They are actively involved in making life better for themselves and everyone around them.
The group award is for organisations and groups, of any age and wherever they are located, that have had a clear, positive impact on positive ageing in the Onkaparinga community.
The intergenerational category recognises groups and individuals of any age who bring the generations together, reduce ageism and demonstrate the value of intergenerational connections.
Nominees will be following in the footsteps of worthy candidates in the 2024 awards, such as Steve Brown, a long-time sporting volunteer; the People’s Platter, a community pantry run by Susan and Darren Christie; and the Generation Gap program on Tribe FM, featuring comperes Trevor Garard and Amber.
The winners will be announced at an exclusive presentation dinner at the South Adelaide Football Club on Wednesday 22 October 2025.
Nominations close at 5pm, Friday 25 July 2025.
