Get into the outdoor action at new sporting and play facilities at Forsyth Reserve in Hackham.
Sports fans can try their hand at a game-winning speccy – whether it is a perfect tennis lob, an expert futsal pass, a basketball three-pointer, a table tennis ace, or a last-minute netball goal.
Pavement games such as four square, a circular maze, hopscotch and an obstacle course will test both skill and luck. For the extra challenge, try to escape giant serpents on the snakes and ladders game or bend into impossible contortions on twister.
You can also help the younger members of the family learn the basics of bike riding and road rules on the learn-to-ride bike track. They will skirt roundabouts, obey (hopefully) road signs, judder over rumble strips, and slow for the speed humps.
If that is all a bit too active, or you need a breather, sit back and watch the action from the new shelter or seating scattered around the site.
The new facilities, located on the corner of Cottage and Sandy Lanes, were opened to the public earlier this month.
They are the result of a $430,000 council project to transform 6 tired tennis courts into a multi-game space for the community.
The revamped space includes a range of active facilities, including 2 resurfaced tennis courts, a learn-to-ride track, court markings and equipment for netball, basketball and futsal, pavement and vertical board games, fitness equipment, a table tennis table, and an irrigated lawn.
Additional features include a bike repair and pump station, a sheltered picnic setting, new seats and a drinking fountain.
The site was previously occupied by the Hackham Tennis Club which enjoyed almost 50 years of successful competition and social tennis.
