National awards for Onkaparinga businesses

Four Onkaparinga businesses took home coveted national awards for fresh produce and wine this week.

Morphett Vale’s Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers was crowned National and State Retailer of the Year at the 2022 ‘A better choice!’ Retailer of the Year, People’s Choice Awards for the second year running.

Owner Dino Labbozzetta thanked everyone who helped make the back-to-back wins a reality.

“Firstly, thanks to the staff, without them we wouldn’t have made this happen and to the customers, it comes from the trust they put in us that we’ll have great quality and great service so I want to thank them very much,” he said.

“Thanks to everyone who participated, and thanks to ‘A better choice!’, we wouldn’t be doing this without everyone.”

Run by Fresh Markets Australia and the Central Markets Association of Australia, ‘A better choice!’ is Australia’s first national program to encourage consumers to shop for fresh produce at their local independent fruit and vegetable retailers, supporting more than 700 retailers across the country.

The awards are designed to highlight the stores that received the most nominations from their local community as their favourite store, in celebration of the quality, freshness and service provided at Aussie Independent fruit and veg shops.

This year more than 16,000 shoppers nominated 428 individual stores as their favourite fruit and veg shop, and the awards event was hosted by Masterchef Winner Callum Hann.

Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers are also a two-time Onkaparinga Business Awards winner, taking home the 2021 Best Retailer award, and Best Customer Experience in 2020.

Meanwhile, three wines from McLaren Vale have won top varietal awards in the prestigious Halliday Wine Companion Awards for 2023.

The Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard The Peake Cabernet Shiraz 2020, McLaren Vale was named 2023 Cabernet Shiraz of the Year.

Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Old Vine Grenache 2020, McLaren Vale was named 2023 Grenache of the Year.

Koomilya Cabernet Touriga 2018, McLaren Vale was named 2023 Other Reds and Blends of the Year.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
