Nominate for Council

Nominations to become a Pimpala ward councillor are now open following an elected member resignation, and they close at midday on Thursday 18 April. There is one position available, with Councillor Michael Fisher holding the other one.

Becoming a member of Council is an important decision and a great way to make a difference to your local community.

If you’re interested in influencing local directions, creating long-term positive outcomes in your community and you’re prepared to contribute strategically to decision-making processes that benefit the broader community, then you should explore what it takes to be a councillor for the Pimpala ward and nominate.

With few exceptions, you can nominate for a position on Council regardless of qualifications, religion, race, gender or experience.

The City of Onkaparinga encourages nominations from people of diverse backgrounds because this ensures a wide range of views are being represented.

You don’t have to live in a suburb of the Pimpala ward to nominate. The Electoral Commission SA website details the eligibility criteria for potential candidates.

A free face-to-face candidate briefing session will be held on Wednesday 10 April, which will cover:

  • Role of the council
  • Roles of council members
  • Allowances and expenses
  • Legal responsibilities

It’s being held at the council’s Noarlunga office at Ramsay Place, Noarlunga Centre from 6:30pm to 8pm and registration is essential – head to onkaparingacity.com to book your spot.

More information can be found on the council’s website and the Electoral Commission SA website.

Once nominations have closed, mail out of voting materials will take place from 7-13 May, with close of voting at 12pm on Monday 3 June. The scrutiny and count will take place from 9am on Tuesday 4 June.
