Pulling out all the stops

Twelve new bus shelters will be installed across the City of Onkaparinga thanks to a state government partnership and advocacy from the community and the council.
Late last year, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) allocated $150,000 for the council to deliver 11 new bus shelters across Onkaparinga following ongoing requests from residents and advocacy from elected members and council staff.
Those 11 shelters were installed early this year, with another 12 now on the way thanks to an additional $150,000 DIT funding boost. Council staff are responsible for delivering the projects including detailed planning and construction.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were said it was a simple yet prime example of the council and state government working together to deliver for the community.
“The community has told us they want more bus shelters to feel safe, secure and comfortable, particularly on hot days and when it’s bucketing down,” she said.
“This combined $300,000 investment to install 23 bus shelters will make a real difference for public transport users, improving accessibility, comfort and convenience, and helping people to reduce reliance on cars.
“We’re grateful to DIT for its ongoing partnership and financial commitment to deliver these important community outcomes.”
The forthcoming 12 bus shelters are anticipated to be installed by June 2027 at the following locations, which were selected based on community demand:
