Views sought on Main South Road

Published on 28 July 2023

The state government is seeking community views on a section of Main South Road at Old Noarlunga and Seaford Heights.

The 3km section runs from the end of the Southern Expressway at Old Noarlunga to Robinson Road in Seaford Heights.

There is no current funding commitment for design and construction of this section of road, however the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) is undertaking a planning study to glean early views on local conditions, road use and future needs.

The department will incorporate community input into future planning processes and potential upgrades of the road.

It is seeking community views on:

  • how people live, work, visit and travel through this section of Main South Road
  • how effectively Main South Road functions in this section, including traffic congestion and safety performance
  • local traffic movements around this area, including what might be needed in the future to support community growth
  • potential opportunities to improve this section for all users.

The City of Onkaparinga has raised traffic flow issues along Main South Road between the Expressway and Victor Harbor with the state government, raising concerns about accidents and network-wide congestion. It advocated for upgrades to improve safety and traffic flow as early as May 2021 and continues to do so.

The council has also advocated to the state government to address other issues involving traffic flow, congestion and safety on the state road network in the region, including the Dyson Road to Commercial Road corridor, which incorporates the Saltfleet Street Bridge in Port Noarlunga.

Local residents, businesses, commuters, tourists, and commercial and heavy vehicle users are invited to provide input to DIT’s planning study through an online survey or listening posts – face-to-face meetings with the project team in the local area:

  • Drakes Foodland Hackham, 12-4pm, Saturday 29 July
  • Seaford Central Shopping, 10am-2pm, Saturday 5 August
  • Noarlunga Football Club, 10am-2pm, Saturday 19 August.

The consultation closes on Monday 28 August 2023.
