The 2025-26 program follows a successful pilot in 2023-24. The program was paused in 2024-25 during the council’s review of its grants and rebates.
The rebates complement the council’s other environment and sustainability offerings, including a dedicated Sustainable Onkaparinga Facebook account with helpful hints, the Library of Things, a seed library, free trees and more than 100 in-person and online workshops and events every year to help the community be greener, save energy and water, and reduce household bills.
The council also offers composting-at-home subsidies – 50 per cent of composting systems bins, worm farms and bokashi – and subsidised purchase of bin latches – 50 per cent of the recommended retail price.
Subsidised purchase of food scrap caddies is currently being reviewed.
Rebates will be given to eligible applicants on a first-come-first-served basis until the allocation is exhausted.
