Concept design for Tatachilla-Mclaren Vale path released

Published on 27 July 2023

The concept design for a new shared-use path linking the McLaren Vale township and Tatachilla Lutheran College has been released for community feedback.

Pedestrians and cyclists are set to benefit from the proposed 800m sealed path that connects with the existing footpath at the Caffrey Street and Tatachilla Road intersection and continues to the college’s southern entrance on Tatachilla Road.

As part of the proposed $1 million project—made possible by a state government Community Infrastructure Grant—works also include the installation of a pedestrian crossing west of the Caffrey St and Tatachilla Rd intersection, medians between Tatachilla Road and the path, landscaping and signage.

You can view the concept design and have your say at the City of Onkaparinga’s Your Say until Sunday 13 August.

The council is also actively engaging with nearby property owners and the college community.

Construction of the path is earmarked to start early in 2024, with completion expected in mid-2024.

City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were said the proposed path would provide safe access for college students and those exploring the region either on foot or by bike.

“This section of road is quite popular with pedestrians, especially school students. Providing a dedicated path will help ensure safer access to the school,” Mayor Were said.

“We know having safe walking and bike riding options encourages people to be more active and we’re grateful the state government has helped bring this project to fruition.”
