Have your say on Seaford Place of Courage
City of Onkaparinga is seeking feedback for a new Seaford public art project to commemorate the traumatic impact of family and domestic violence on individuals, families and communities.
The Place of Courage project seeks to raise awareness, further the dialogue for understanding and change, and be a place of comfort and healing, promoting courage to speak up and out and provide a powerful symbol of a peaceful and unified community.
Council has identified the garden area beside the Seaford Community Centre and the northern entrance to Moana Primary School as a suitable location.
This area is used widely as a walk-through and by families to pick up and drop off school children.
Council is also taking the opportunity to beautify this area and provide bench seating. The project will include the removal of the current mosaic artwork that is quite degraded and be replaced with the Place of Courage artwork.
This area will remain a meeting place for families for school pick-up and drop-offs.
The artist’s design allows for an open reading of this significant public artwork, but it’s envisioned that it will become a place where both individuals and groups can come and reflect and heal in a safe and familiar environment, highlighting the issue of family and domestic violence.
You can view the concept plan and have your say at council’s Your Say page until Monday 12 April.
A community information session is also being held on Thursday 8 April at Seaford Community Centre from 6.30–7.15pm.
