Help name McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast’s new coast tourist drive

Victoria has the Great Ocean Road. The US boasts Route 66. McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast is famous for [insert coastal drive name here].

Yes, the City of Onkaparinga is developing a tourist drive to showcase it’s spectacular 31 kilometres of coastline and it wants your help to name it.

The new drive will span the length from O’Sullivan Beach to Sellicks Hill, taking in world-class beaches and coastal villages, each offering their own unique vibe and key visitor experiences.

The development of the coastal tourist drive is a key action of council’s endorsed Tourism Strategic Plan 2019-23, advocated by council’s Mid Coast and Wine Coast ward councillors, coastal business and tourism associations.

City of Onkaparinga Mayor Erin Thompson says the aim is to identify a name that resonates with key visitor markets of intra and interstate travellers, because an increase in visitors will boost the coast and surrounds’ unique local business community.

“We’ve always known our city’s 31-kilometre stretch of stunning coastline is among the best in the country, but developing a coastal tourist drive from Sullies to Sellicks Hill will help further put McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast on every visitor’s bucket list,” she says.

“We want visitors to discover our stunning coastline but most of all, to stop, wander and spend in our coastal villages and main streets.

“We also want to encourage people to holiday in and explore their own backyards as we continue to emerge from the impacts of COVID-19.”
