Dine in style with new outdoor parklets
Say hello to Onkaparinga’s newest al fresco dining options.
Delicia Acai + Protein Bar on Beach Road, Christies Beach and The Cottage Bakery on Main Road McLaren are the latest Onkaparinga eateries to host a parklet – a platform that can include benches, chairs, tables, planter boxes and bike racks.
The parklets, which aim to support business growth and activation in the City of Onkaparinga’s main streets, coastal nodes and townships, were installed this week and will remain outside the businesses until December 2019.
The Cottage Bakery’s Managing Director, Ben Hage, says he’s excited to watch how the parklet transforms the street.
“I think it’s really good for our business because it’s out there by the street attracting more people in,” Ben says.
“We’ve been really happy with the council’s attitude to getting these done and with the timing.
“The Santos Tour Down Under’s obviously coming in January so getting the parklet done a month before then will help attract some regular customers.
“We’ve had our designer putting together some furniture for us, some seating, stools and plants and being in McLaren Vale we’d like to incorporate some sort of vine with it in time.”
The City of Onkaparinga’s parklet program is part of the City-Wide Place and Business Activation Plan and it aims to help make the City an attractive place to live, work and do business.
Keep an eye out for them next time you’re in Christies Beach or McLaren Vale to see how the freshly installed parklets become decorated with plants and furniture, and to enjoy a pie or acai bowl in the sunshine!
Businesses interested in hosting one of the two parklets will need to wait until the permits expire in December 2019, but you can submit an expression of interest via the City of Onkaparinga’s ON Business Partner Program at any time: email@example.com.
