New era for council meetings

Council meetings will now be recorded and made available online, following a successful trial at last week’s Strategic Directions Committee (SDC) meeting.

This marks a new era for council and makes the decision-making process and debate more accessible to residents.

“We want residents to see what happens at Council meetings and understand how decisions are made. By making meetings available online, this is one of the ways we can do this”, Mayor Erin Thompson said.

“Residents often tell me they want to attend Council meetings but can’t make the meeting time. People can now view a Council meeting at a time that suits them.

“We continue to look for ways to engage our community and improve transparency.”

In addition to ordinary and special Council meetings, the SDC and Audit Value and Efficiency Committee meetings will also be recorded.

Implementing this technology will bring Onkaparinga Council in line with other councils around South Australia and will add another layer of transparency and accountability.

Recordings will be published on the Agendas and Minutes pages of the City of Onkaparinga website within 48 hours of the meeting and will be available for three months.
