First time for everything at Firstival

Published on 12 June 2026

Have you heard of Firstival? Well, there’s a first time for everything and that’s exactly what Firstival is all about.

A Libraries SA initiative, the festival of firsts, now in its fourth year, is a month-long celebration throughout July, encouraging everyone younger, older and in-between, to try something new.

And with Onkaparinga libraries hosting a full program of free or low-cost local events, there’s no better motivation to crawl out from under the covers, leave the house, and get involved.

Want to make your first crap masterpiece? Give it a go at Aldinga Library (31 July) where the goal is to liberate yourself from perfectionism and embrace your lack of artistic talent!

Or dive in and make your first Book Week costume using everyday items at the Hub Library (19 July).

Ever wanted to try poetry slamming? Learn how to be brave on stage with the Try your first poetry slam workshop hosted by experienced poet, Carissa Fischer at Woodcroft Library (5 July).

And why not join in the NAIDOC Week celebrations? Try your first Aboriginal art workshop with Spirit in Unity at Willunga Library (6 July) or discover your first bush tucker and First Nations artefacts at the Hub (5 July).

Whatever your interest, there’s something for you to try.
