Get set for bumper Willunga weekend

Published on 17 October 2024

Willunga is the place to be for all ages from 24–27 October, with a pro golf tournament, award-winning folk festival and SA’s first farmers market all happening in the historic township across four huge days.

Pro golf returns to Willunga

The action kicks off on Thursday 24 October when the next crop of young Australian golf stars contests the Webex Players Series South Australia (hosted by Greg Blewett) at the Willunga Golf Course for the second time.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event – SA’s first professional mixed golf tournament – this year’s showing includes a new dedicated family day on Sunday 27 October (11am to 3pm) with face painting, a jumping castle, hospitality and mini golf.

Entry is free every day of the tournament, with free parking around the golf course and on accessible adjacent land across the weekend.

The event will again be one of golf’s most inclusive, bringing together men and women to play for the same trophy prize purse, and also including the Webex Junior Players Series and Webex South Australia All Abilities Championship across the weekend.

Local hero and Willunga Golf Club member, Steven Alderson – who won last year’s inaugural all abilities tournament at his home course, and this week in Spain became the first player with autism to win a G4D Tour event – is coming home to defend his title.

Among the other competitors, two of Australia’s best young amateur talents – Quinn Croker and Justice Bosio – will be making their professional debuts at the event.

Phoenix Campbell and Jasper Stubbs, who recently joined the pro ranks, will also compete alongside players representing Indonesia, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States.

Round 1 is scheduled to begin at 7:30am Thursday morning. Head to the tournament webpage for more information.

Fleurieu Folk Festival

SA’s premier folk festival returns to Willunga from 25–27 October, featuring local, interstate and international musicians, as well as workshops, sessions, dancers, blackboard concerts, musical theatre, poetry, spoken word and children’s entertainment, local food, wine and market stalls.

There’s even a special venue at the festival for people who want to come along and play their own music, and a Busk Stop for buskers!

The Fleurieu Folk Festival is a five-time recipient of the Community Event of the Year Award in the City of Onkaparinga’s Australia Day Awards, and the 2024 event has been supported by a council Major Festivals and Events Grant.

Head to the festival website for more details and to purchase tickets.

Willunga Farmers Market

What would a weekend in Willunga be without a visit to South Australia’s first farmers market?

The Willunga Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 8am until 1pm – rain, hail or shine – at Willunga High School on Main Road.

Head to the market website for weekly market updates (including stallholders), a map and parking information, accessibility information and more.
