Want to learn something new? Harmony Week (16–22 March) offers you the perfect chance at Onkaparinga’s libraries, with 2 fascinating events to tickle your mind (and your taste buds).
Connections between Country, culture and community
Join respected Ngarrindjeri artist and cultural storyteller, Mark Koolmatrie, for a free and fascinating talk exploring the deep connections between Country, culture and community at Aldinga Library on Thursday 19 March (5:30–6:30pm).
Mark will share knowledge about the traditional uses of the natural environment, highlighting the importance of native plants for food, medicine and wellbeing.
This session offers an opportunity to learn from First Nations perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of how caring for Country supports sustainable living and cultural continuity. Places are limited, so book your spot to avoid disappointment. For ages 18+.
Onigiri: Making & Tasting
Noarlunga Library will host a mouth-watering workshop on Saturday 21 March (11am to 12:30pm) where you’ll learn how to prepare the iconic Japanese snack, onigiri, while discovering a little about Japanese culture.
Shape your own rice balls and choose from a range of both traditional and not‑so‑traditional flavour options. After crafting your onigiri, you’ll come together to enjoy our delicious creations as a group. Perfect for beginners.
Cost is $5, which includes all materials and ingredients. Suitable for ages 15+. Bookings essential.
Harmony Week is Australia’s annual celebration of our diversity, bringing together Australians from all different backgrounds – it’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
It coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March).
