The place to be

The Port Noarlunga Arts Precinct 2021 Program celebrates the vibrancy of the area. Join in the fun at the various events on offer.

The thriving township of Port Noarlunga is a welcoming hub of creativity. The Port Noarlunga Arts Precinct Program has run annually since 2017 and showcases the activities of the Arts Centre and Sauerbier House.

“Port Noarlunga is increasingly becoming a vital arts centre for our community and visitors to the area,” says council’s coordinator of the Arts Centre Tim Rollason.

“The beach, the jetty, the river and the reef form the main backdrop to Port Noarlunga. As well as the Arts Centre and Sauerbier House, there has been an increase in new restaurants, cafes and shops over the last few years, showcasing a wide variety of artworks, plants, collectables, clothing and artist-made products,” Tim says.

A raft of artists and exhibitors responded to council’s call for expressions of interest in participating in the program. This year’s program again celebrates the range of art there is to be experienced, including exhibitions, performances and artist in residence programs.

The Shutterbugs at the Hub group of amateur photographers will host their exhibition titled Captured Moments in SA from 21 May to 21 June at the Arts Centre. Captured Moments in SA will present photographs portraying landscape, nature, travel and people in both colour and black and white images.

The Textile Market is back this year after being cancelled in 2020 due to social distancing restrictions. The event is being held at the Arts Centre on 26 June in conjunction with the Beanies to Berets exhibition. Knitted, crocheted, woven, spun, felted, painted and embroidered works will be available to purchase from local artists on the day.

There’s plenty more on offer throughout the year, including performances, paintings, installations and storytelling through imagery and the written word. Local artists are also holding a range of classes to encourage community members to explore their creative talents.

Copies of the program are available at Onkaparinga libraries, in cafes and other community and meeting places throughout the city, and online at onkaparingacity.com/Around-me/Arts-and-culture/2021-program
