Pitch event a winner for community grant recipients

Published on 27 April 2022

Ten diverse community projects have received a $2000 City of Onkaparinga Community Open Round Grant after pitching their ideas to their peers earlier this month.

Council’s Community Open Round Grants provide residents the opportunity to apply for a grant to fund an idea/project that might not fit into other grant programs.

Applications for the unique grants opened in March and shortlisted applicants were invited to pitch their idea to their peers at an event at Port Noarlunga’s Arts Centre on 10 April, with the pitches that receive the most votes from participants selected to take home $2000.

This year the successful projects included:

  • A community pantry (including food and COVID safety packs) for those in need
  • A community expo that aims to demystify death and dying, and increase skills and confidence in death literacy
  • A Willunga art exhibition
  • A Fleurieu Peninsula food festival
  • A book about German immigrants.

The Community Open Round grants also invite community participation to help build capacity, connectedness, wellbeing and a sense of place; and they encourage and celebrate Onkaparinga’s community and cultural life.

City of Onkaparinga’s Community Open Round Grants is just one of 13 grant programs offered by council, with most programs reopening for applications in July.

Community Open Round Grants will reopen for applications in January 2023. You can also use the free online Onkaparinga Funding Finder any time to identify other funding opportunities for your idea or project.
