Don’t get left behind – get online
Being online can be daunting.
If you want to build your online skills, confidence and safety, sign up for a free workshop with Onkaparinga Libraries during Get Online Week.
A range of events is on offer, from improving digital skills and avoiding scams to 3D printing and researching your family history.
Get Online Week, running from 14 to 20 October, is a national campaign to close the digital divide. It supports people to feel safer and more confident online so no one is left behind.
The week was established by the Good Things Foundation, working with partners across the country to help everyone have access to digital resources and knowledge.
Onkaparinga’s libraries have supported Get Online Week since 2018.
“More and more services, including government services, are going online. Those who can’t get online or easily navigate when they’re online can be left behind,” says Andrew Berney, Team Leader for Digital Inclusion at Onkaparinga Libraries.
“Another issue is being safe online. Many of us know a friend or family member who has been scammed. With our sessions with Adelaide Tech Guy, Richard Pascoe, you can get the latest tips and tricks on how to remain safe online.
“During Get Online Week we focus on helping people improve their skills.
“This helps them better access services. But it’s also about being part of a digital society.
“So many community connections are now online. It’s the same with families and friends. A lot of communication is via phones or computers when people send photos or make video calls.”
Onkaparinga’s libraries also offer year-round digital help sessions. Residents can book a free one-on-one, 30-minute training session to get help with their digital devices such as mobile phones, tablets and laptops.
A range of digital resources, including on online safety, is available on the Onkaparinga Libraries website.
To book into a Get Online Week workshop, go online, book in person at your local library, or call 8384 0655.
