Help choose Storybook Walk’s new character

It’s time to add a new character to Aberfoyle Park’s Storybook Walk and you get to help decide who!

Storybook Walk in Aberfoyle Park’s Thalassa Park was established in 2007 with the support of the Thalassa Park and Gardens Trust, and it aims to celebrate and raise the profile of Australian writers and poets and their works, by bringing characters from some of the best-loved children’s books to life.

In 2018, City of Onkaparinga celebrated the arrival of Grug, and in 2020 it welcomed the Dirty Dinosaur.

Now, council wants your help to pick which character will join Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, Storm Boy and the team in 2021.

There are three options to choose from at council’s Your Say page:

  • Esmerelda’s Nestwritten by Robert Moore and illustrated by Mandy Foot (published by MidnightSun Publishing)
  • Fancy Pantswritten by Kelly Hibbert and illustrated by Amanda Graham (published by Little Book Press
  • Mama Ocean, written by Jane Jolly and illustrated by Sally Heinrich (published by MidnightSun Publishing)

You can listen to Onkaparinga Libraries staff members reading each story via the links above (or at the Your Say page) and once you know which one is your favourite, simply go to the voting poll and submit your vote.

The story that receives the most votes before the poll closes on 15 February 2021 will be Storybook Walk’s new addition to be installed and unveiled next year.

What are you waiting for? Cast your vote now!

How are books selected for Storybook Walk?

Books are selected for potential inclusion at Storybook Walk after they meet strict criteria, including:

  • It’s an Australian work and/or it’s by an Australian author
  • It’s available for purchase from bookshops or borrowing from your library
  • It contains illustrations that can be translated into a 3D sculpture

Permission has been granted by the publisher to allow the characters to be transformed into a sculpture
