Local softballers win gold

Two junior Onkaparinga softball teams have beaten teams from across SA as a local club hones future stars following a council grant.

The Onkaparinga North Boys Division 2 and the Girls Division 2 softball teams finished top of their division at the three-day South Australian Public Schools Amateur Sports Association (SAPSASA) carnival in April, which saw fierce competition by both metropolitan and SA country regional teams.

Four of the players from the girls’ team hail from the Happy Valley-based Seacombe Tigers Softball Club, which was successful in receiving a City of Onkaparinga Community Development Program Grant valued at $3675.

“Our club’s very grateful for council’s grant, which helps us run our modified rules Weekly Primary School Softball Competition,” said club vice-president Jon Holton.

“For both Onkaparinga North teams to win gold against such stiff competition is an amazing result.

“We’re particularly proud of the girls who hail from our own Seacombe Tigers Softball Club.”

City of Onkaparinga’s Community Development Programs Grants is just one of 13 grant programs offered by council, with most programs reopening for applications in July.
