WordFest: a year-long festival at Onkaparinga Libraries

Published on 28 February 2025

Books, words, writing, poetry, competitions, authors. WordFest Onkaparinga’s literary events are tailored for word lovers of every age.

WordFest 2025 is presented by Onkaparinga’s six libraries in a series of events that run right across the year.

Most events are free or low cost and can be booked at Eventbrite.

New events are loaded every week, so keep up to date on the Eventbrite or Onkaparinga Libraries websites.

Next up in the calendar is live streaming of Writers’ Week at the Hub, Seaford and Aldinga libraries from Monday 3 March to Thursday 6 March, from 9.30am each day.

In its 40th year, Writers’ Week is South Australia’s premier literary festival. Live-streamed interviews will include writers, critics, publishers and commentators such as Geoffrey Robertson, Jessie Tu, Kirstie Parker, Robert Dessaix and Daisy Goodwin.

WordFest then invites you to meet four authors in person for free during March.

Adelaide-based author Rebecca Heath talks about her third novel, The wedding party, at a ‘meet the author’ event at Noarlunga library on Thursday 13 March (5.30pm to 6.30pm). Hear Rebecca talk about the book’s three families who are united by a terrible event and must now survive a deadly wedding.

Michael Trant comes to the Noarlunga Library on Saturday 29 March (1.30pm to 2.30pm) to discuss his latest novel, Blood and gold. The third in the Gabe Ahern series of books, Blood and gold is an outback thriller that draws on Trant’s Western Australian country roots.

Then, there are two events happening on Sunday 30 March. Local author Christine Sinclair will be discussing her book, Tarot Speaks, at Woodcroft Library; while Adelaide author Amy Matthews will discuss her new novel, Best, First and Last at Hub Library.

Later in the year, WordFest will present the City of Onkaparinga’s Writing and Poetry competition. Launched last year, the competition seeks entries of fiction and poetry of up to 500 words from South Australian residents.

In addition to WordFest events, Onkaparinga’s libraries invite you to a range of children’s, youth and adult programs throughout the year, such as reading groups, story times for babies and toddlers, and reading challenges.

Go online for WordFest bookings and events or visit one of your local Onkaparinga libraries in Aldinga, the Hub (Aberfoyle Park), Noarlunga, Seaford, Willunga or Woodcroft.
