What matters to young people and how can we make a difference?
The Onkaparinga Youth Committee wants to hear from young people aged 12–25 who live, work, study, and play in the City of Onkaparinga, about how to tackle some of the big issues.
Last year, more than 600 young people completed a Your Voice Matters campaign survey that overwhelmingly identified three key themes they wanted action on:
- mental health
- climate change and the environment
- access and inclusion.
Armed with this knowledge, the committee wants to take action, and is now asking for your feedback on the kinds of projects and programs it could offer young people to tackle these themes, what already exists, and what kind of positive change the committee could make in your community.
Whether it be planting more trees or taking it to the streets, your voice and feedback will actively help the Onkaparinga Youth Committee to make informed decisions about the programs and services offered to young people, by young people.
You can have your say by taking a short survey at council’s Your Say Onkaparinga website until 5pm on Thursday 28 July.
The committee held a forum at Aldinga Payinthi College to kickstart this second phase of engagement with secondary schools from around Onkaparinga. The forum was a success with over 40 students taking part and sharing their views, as well as local Base 10 band ‘Rey Boen’ performing and Isaac Hannam Welcoming us to Country.
Once the consultation period closes, feedback (which can be anonymous) will be collated into a report, which will be shared on the Your Say Onkaparinga page before guiding the future development of youth projects within the City of Onkaparinga.
