Port Noarlunga Sports Complex upgrade gets green light

The $3.3 million Port Noarlunga Sports Complex upgrade will go ahead after the state government announced it would match City of Onkaparinga funding.

The state government has announced it will match council’s funding ($1.65 million) for the project that will see an upgrade of the clubrooms and changerooms for the football, netball, cricket and tennis clubs.

Each club has a strong membership base at the oval and contribute to the development of a healthy, active community.

Women will finally receive their own dedicated changerooms to support their participation in sport, particularly the growing Australian rules football competition.

The funding comes as part of the government’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program (LGIPP), which aims to benefit communities, provide economic stimulus and create jobs.

City of Onkaparinga Mayor Erin Thompson said it was a big win for the community.

“The ground is used by local football, cricket, netball, tennis and gridiron clubs; community groups; and for events such as the Port Noarlunga Blues Festival,” she said.

“We’re also excited women will finally receive their own dedicated changerooms to support their participation in sport and particularly the growing Australian rules football competition.

“The new facility will provide new community spaces including the social space and kitchen, both for club members and creating further opportunities for revenue generation through community use and events.

“A big thankyou to the state government for matching council’s $1.65 million funding, and to everyone who got behind this project, particularly the passionate club members.”
